I’ll be honest, I have been a bit useless at remembering to post the past. Things would side-track me and before I knew it, a big chunk of time had passed with no posts! Most of my content is what's known as 'evergreen content' - meaning my content is relevant no matter when I post because I showcase my client's projects, add some funny memes and quotes etc. I'm not posting on-trend content coz quite frankly I'm not a trendy kinda gal!! So for me, getting on to the time-saving, sanity-saving notion of planning ahead with social media scheduling was a lifesaver!
How I plan my social media schedules is I will take a day a month to plan out the next month's posts, I’ll create the artwork, write the posts, taking into account any holidays, special days etc. and then spend the rest of the day scheduling! Once a week or once a fortnight might work better for you, but once you get the hang of it you’ll work out a process that suits you best. If you have no idea what I’m on about, please have a read of these schedulers and you're welcome to email me for further info any time!
Facebook Business Suite: Connected to your FB business page and Instagram business page, you can post to both at the same time AND schedule posts in advance. You also have the option to choose to post to only Instagram or only FB. Some features that FB has doesn’t carry across to Instagram, like the call to action button, links, post background colour or add feeling/activity features… A workaround is to do the FB post first, copy all formatted text, then do the Instagram post! To schedule through 'Create Post', you select the down arrow icon next to the 'Publish' button, select 'Schedule post', select date and time, hit 'Schedule' then select 'Schedule Post' (where the 'Publish' button was!).
Hootsuite: This is a little ripper if you have more than FB and IG social accounts. On the Free Plan, you can connect 3 different social media accounts and have up to 30 active schedules at a time. The social media accounts include FB, IG, Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn. Once you're ready to create your posts, you go to 'Publisher', 'Planner' then select the date and time from the calendar view and you can either create 'Post' or 'Pin'.
Some other schedulers that offer Free Plans:
Buffer: The Free Plan runs the same as Hootsuite, but with a limit of 10 scheduled posts.
RecurPost: As above but with a limit of 20 scheduled posts.
Planning ahead your social media posts might come in very handy over the Christmas-New Year period if you plan to have some time off – it’s keeping a presence without being present!
If I've confused you, or you have any questions or have no idea what I’m talking about, PLEASE feel free to email me and I'll happily give you more info or point you in the right direction! Sharing is Caring and doesn’t cost a thing 😉
(And don't worry, I won't take the opportunity to inundate you with email marketing because that's just not how I fly! 🤣)
